hemingway in cuba
It is very simple to explain everything Papa loved about Cuba. The quiet house on top of the hill, the birds chirping in the farm, the fruit trees, the comfortable clothes he could wear everywhere, the proximity to the Big Blue River (the Gulf Stream). He arrived in Havana one day, almost by chance, but he never left. The splendorous Havana became Papa’s favorite place to write some of his most important novels. However, the lights of the city were not his inspiration. He only needed the refuge of Vigía Farm, his boat Pilar, and his people of Cojímar to turn Cuba into his home for more than 20 years. He lived in Havana because he liked it.

what will we do?
Visit San Francisco de Paula, a working-class area south of Havana. Take a closer look at Hemingway’s life by visiting his eternal home, Vigía Farm. If you are a big fan, you will not want to miss anything!
Through the big doors and windows, discover the intimacy of his life: books (many of them first editions), paintings, weapons, portraits, souvenirs from his numerous trips, letters and favorite drinks.
Climb to the tower, where you will appreciate a privileged and beautiful view of Havana. Explore the garden, full of fruit trees and birds. The swimming pool, where Ava Gardner swam “naked”, stands out among the vegetation. Stop by the old tennis court where the legendary Pilar is exhibited and look at the cemetery of his beloved dogs.
Visit Cojímar, the fishing village that housed his dear Pilar. The simple life of a small village outside Havana was the source of inspiration for his masterpiece The Old Man and the Sea.
Be part of this story and explore the mythical bar La Terraza where Papa used to spend much of his time with his friends followed by a genuine Cuban cocktail, Papa style.
