Cuban percussion, as we know it today, has its origin in the first African slaves who arrived to Cuba during the sixteenth century. They brought with them their sounds, rites and culture, as a way to communicate with their gods and, ultimately, stay together and survive. Eventually, our Cuban culture and identity emerged, a rich mixture of traditions inherited from our African and Spanish ancestors. Today, Afro-Cuban percussion is the most well-known branch of music internationally. Do not miss the opportunity to learn about Cuba, its people and music!
