the cuban revolution
Surrounded by beaches, Cuba is an island that stands only 90 miles south from the United States. Yet, for many, the Caribbean charm might not be its biggest attraction; Cuba is different. As soon as you step into Havana you will not find big Coca Cola billboards anywhere, and it will be very relaxing, for sure. You will see children in schools repeating slogans to exalt communism and Che Guevara’s image being sold in souvenirs stores. Daily life in Cuba is extremely complicated, with challenges and limitations; but also, full of reasons to smile and keep on “luchando” (fighting) as Cubans commonly call this life style of survival which characterizes the children of this island.

 what will we do?

Our first stop will be the Museum of the Revolution, a jewel of Cuban architecture. It houses an exhibition of objects related to Fidel Castro’s guerrilla warfare against the dictator Fulgencio Batista in the 1950s. You will also appreciate some military objects used during the Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs.
Next, you will visit a store of rationed food (bodega) and a market (mercado) where hundreds of Cubans go daily to buy their basic supplies. This will be the perfect opportunity to learn about Cuban economy, mostly controlled by the state and the emerging private sector that defies the odds to create businesses.
