the jewish route
It is inspirational to see how much the Jewish community of Cuba seems to accomplish with so little. Today, the Jewish community in Cuba is small, (around 1200) members. This experience will be the perfect chance to learn about the history of Judaism in Cuba and connect with members of the community which have been forced to adapt in order to survive. You will see their daily lives and discuss their current relationship with the Cuban government. This hard-working community is united, faithful to their ideals, versatile, and, undoubtedly, a community that has left an indelible imprint on this island.

 what will we do?

Accompanied by a local guide you will trace the Jewish heritage in Havana by visiting the most important synagogues: the Patronato Synagogue with its community center and library; the Sephardic Center with its Holocaust exhibit and synagogue and Adath Israel Synagogue in Old Havana. You will meet with active members of the community and learn about their history, work with the community, challenges and their biggest aspirations. The Jews of Cuba are constantly helping all the members of the community and, this is, for sure, one of the secrets for their survival.
You will visit the old Jewish neighborhood in Old Havana and the Menorah monument which celebrates immigrants who originated the community in Old Havana. By the end of the tour, we’ll have enjoyed a cocktail at the beautiful Hotel Raquel, the only hotel in Cuba that pays homage to the culture and heritage of the Jewish community.
